Sydney FC started their FOXTEL Y-League campaign with an emphatic 8-3 win against Newcastle Jets at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday.

Striker Jordi Swibel got the ball rolling after just six minutes with a clinical finish inside the far post for 1-0.

The Sydney FC pressure continued with two own goals by the Jets back line in the 10th and 18th minutes for a 3-0 lead.

Newcastle hit back with a header by Joseph Langlois from a corner kick for 3-1 with just 19 minutes on the clock in an action packed opening.

The young Sky Blues hit back in the 22nd minute when Jake Hollman jinked by two defenders to rifle home his goal and it was 4-1.

The Daniel McBreen coached Jets clawed their way back into the match with a quick-fire brace to Samuel Donnellan before half time and it was 4-3 at the break producing an exciting seven goal 45 minutes.

The second half began with Sydney FC again dominating the proceedings, before a ten minute spell between the 67th and 77th minutes saw a four goal burst from the Sky Blues wrap up the win.

In the 67th there was some clever combination play as a neat flick from Swibel sent Marco Tilio through on goal and he made no mistake for 5-3.

Joeys skipper Ryan Teague, on return from the U17 World Cup in Brazil, put his mark on the game with a free kick which slid inside the post to make it 6-3.

Swibel was again the provider as his precision pass into the path of Tilio saw the Young Socceroo finish over the keeper for 7-3.

Tilio secured his hat trick in the 77th minute following an assist from Jaiden Kucharski to complete the scoreline of 8-3.

Sydney FC travel next Saturday, 23 November to take on the Central Coast Mariners at Pluim Park 10:30am kick off.
