Sydney FC’s Foxtel National Youth League squad played out an exciting 2-2 draw against Newcastle Jets at Sportsground No.2 in Newcastle on Sunday night.

Sydney FC found themselves facing a 2-0 deficit at the break following a brace from the Jets lively forward Antonee Gilroy.

Whatever Head Coach Rob Stanton said to his charges in the sheds worked as they came out firing in the second stanza.

Regular A-League custodian Jack Duncan returning from injury for Newcastle kept the Jets in the game with some excellent keeping.

The breakthrough eventually came in the 71st with Marco Tilio shooting into the top corner to reduce the margin to 2-1.

Five minutes later the Sky Blues were awarded a penalty when skipper Sam McIllhatton was brought down in the area however Duncan again came to the rescue saving the Hassan Jalloh spot kick.

Sydney did eventually equalize when substitute Benjamin Koop found the back of the net to finish off a great run from centre back Aaron Calver for 2-2.

As the match went into added time it was Sydney FC with the best chance as Jeremy Cox found himself one on one with Duncan but the Jets keeper again made the save and both teams had to settle for a point.

Sydney FC are at home in their next fixture against cross town rivals Western Sydney Wanderers, on Saturday, 13th January at Lambert Park 7.00pm kick off in a must win encounter for the Sky Blues to keep their finals hopes alive.
