Wilkinson To Make 150th Appearance In Big Blue

Wilkinson 150th Appearance

Sydney FC Captain Alex Wilkinson will notch up his 150th game for the Sky Blues on Saturday night (kick off 7.25pm) as he becomes the club’s sixth highest appearance maker against Melbourne Victory.

The skipper will take to the field for his 150th game in all competitions, bettered only by Alex Brosque, Rhyan Grant, Terry McFlynn, Seb Ryall and Milos Ninkovic.

And the centre half says to do it in the Big Blue gives it that extra edge.

“These games against Melbourne Victory are always exciting but to notch up the 150 against them makes it a little bit more special; but any game against them is always a big one and an exciting one.”

“Whenever you get milestones like this you count yourself very lucky to be able to have played at a club like Sydney FC.”

The Socceroo defender is also honoured to be among some of Sydney FC’s all-time greats.

“Those guys on that top five list are legends of the club and have given a lot to Sydney FC, so to be able to join them is a huge honour.

“I’ve had a lot of success with some great teams and got to play with some great players.”

Wilkinson joined the club at the start of the most successful period in its history in 2016 and was made captain ahead of the A-League 2019-20 season, steering the club to a third Premiership and Championship double.

The 36-year old says he still has more to give as he looks towards 200 appearances.

“I’ve had a fantastic time since I arrived at the club and I’ve loved every minute.

“My body feels good and I think I can keep going for a while yet.”

Sydney FC’s A-League match against Victory is a double header tomorrow night with the Sky Blues’ Westfield W-League squad needing just a win over their Melbourne counterparts to claim a record equalling third Premiers Plate (kick off 4.30pm).
