Why Can’t We Go All The Way Says Ibini

While the Sky Blues are focussed on Saturday night’s elimination semi-final against Adelaide United, Sydney FC winger Bernie Ibini said there’s no reason that the Sky Blues couldn’t go all the way.

Ibini compared the mood in the Sky Blues camp to that during his time at the Central Coast Mariners when they were in the Finals Series, as he quashed any mention of Sydney FC’s record against the Reds.

“It’s definitely very similar [the atmosphere] we have a very good squad here,” he said.

“It’s a big game on the weekend so hopefully we can play well and get the win as well.

“I don’t want to put any extra pressure on us, but I could see us doing it, why not,” he continued.

“It’s just another game, we’re looking to play very well and get the win and we haven’t really spoken about the record. It’s not up to us to choose the favourites, it’s just up to us to go out on the field and play.”

Sky Blues midfielder Mickael Tavares echoed Ibini’s thoughts as the Senegalese international said he was excited by the prospect of finals football.

“I think it’s very exciting, I think we are very motivated so to win this game,” he said.

“We did a very great week’s training so we are willing to do very well tomorrow.

“After Wellington I think it was very positive for us to be free, even for the confidence, and now I think everybody is 100%, everybody is back so I think it’s going to be a good game.”

Asked on their futures, the pair said that while they’d love to stay their attention was entirely on their must win game at Allianz Stadium on Saturday.

“We are talking and we are in a good way but at the moment I am focussed for the game,” Tavares said.

“At the moment I’m just focussing on the game at the weekend like Mickael said,” Ibini continued.

“Of course [I’d like to stay] being from Sydney and playing for a Sydney club is very nice and I’ve enjoyed it this season.”
