In our ‘Where Are They Now’ series we’ll be taking a look back at some of our past players and hearing from them as they provide an update on what they’re up to these days.

This week, we heard from former Sky Blue midfielder Shannon Cole as he hosted a live Facebook chat on Tuesday night.

Cole joined the Sky Blues in 2008, with a view of being deployed in both a midfield and full back role, after impressing in the NPL with Sydney Olympic.

Cole immediately impressed for the Sky Blues, and was a hit with the club’s supporters from the outset, with his winning free kick in a 3-2 victory over the Mariners a goal that will live long in the annals at Sydney FC.

The midfielder developed a penchant for free kicks and spectacular goals, and scored one of the club’s fastest ever goals as he found the back of the net less than 30 seconds into an away #BigBlue in 2008.

A Member of the Sky Blues’ double-winning 2009/10 squad, Cole would eventually depart for crosstown rivals Western Sydney Wanderers, before moving to his current club FC Arizona in 2019.

Hear from Shannon Cole:

“I’m in Arizona in the USA with my young family. We’ve been over here for a year and a half, looking for a different pace of life and different experience.

“My wife is American, and coming to the US post A-League was something we always wanted to try.”
