In our ‘Where Are They Now’ series we’ll be taking a look back at some of our past players and hearing from them as they provide an update on what they’re up to these days.

This week, we heard from former Sky Blue defender Jordy Buijs, as he hosted a special live Facebook chat on Friday night.

Buijs joined the Sky Blues in January 2017 and immediately made his mark in an away #BigBlue, silencing Besart Berisha, with his post-match comments following the Sky Blues’ win endearing him to the club’s faithful supporters.

The Dutchman proved a solid acquisition with a number of impressive performances in the centre of defence, and he scored his first goal in the Sky Blues’ Semi-Final win over Perth Glory to progress to the 2017 Grand Final – playing 116 minutes in the decider that the Sky Blues’ claimed on penalties.

Buijs re-signed for the 2017/18 season and picked up where he left off, scoring twice in the Sky Blues run to success in the 2017 FFA Cup Final to pick up his third piece of silverware within the calendar year.

Buijs started every game of the 2017/18 season, continuing to impress, and picked up his second Hyundai A-League Premiership before departing the club for Japan after Semi-Final heartache at Allianz Stadium.

The Dutchman now plies his trade in the J2 League in Japan.

Hear from Jordy Buijs:

“I’m very well and enjoying my life in Japan right now.

“I’m playing for my third club now in Japan, with Kyoto Sanga, it’s a club in the second league and it’s a very interesting club.

“The club is very nice and it’s my first time playing in purple.”
