In our ‘Where Are They Now’ series we’ll be taking a look back at some of our past players and hearing from them as they provide an update on what they’re up to these days.

This week, we heard from former Sky Blue shotstopper and 2016/17 double winner Danny Vukovic as he hosted a live Facebook chat on Tuesday night.

Vukovic joined the Sky Blues in 2016 and immediately made himself a presence between the sticks, claiming the starting spot and going on to play all but one game in 2016/17.

The glovesman put in a number of impressive performances for the Sky Blues, with his acrobatic saves and commanding presence in a goal a huge contributing factor to the club’s record-breaking season that saw them set Australian football history.

Vukovic played his part in the records too, setting a league high 16 clean sheets in the Hyundai A-League home and away season, while also setting the record for the lowest goals conceded in a season as the Sky Blues shipped only 12 against in 27 games to claim the Premiership.

Perhaps Vuvkovic’s crowing glory, the shotstopper would put in a dominant performance in the 2017 Hyundai A-League Grand Final, saving Marco Rojas’ decisive spot kick to set up Milos Ninkovic to score the winner and seal the Championship for the Sky Blues.

Following his heroics in Sky Blue, a move to Europe beckoned as Vukovic joined Belgian powerhouse RC Genk in 2017, picking up the Player of the Year award in his maiden season before earning a spot in the Socceroos squad to the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Hear from Danny Vukovic:

“The weather in Europe is getting nice now, survived another European winter which I’m happy about. We’re staying safe and all is good here.

“I had a bad injury, a ruptured Achilles and was out for six months before I could get back out on the pitch and start. I’m only just getting back to 100% now, about nine months post surgery. It’s going good.”

“I can’t wait to get back and start playing again.”
