We Have A Championship Side Says Brosque

With the opportunity to outright lead the Hyundai A-League on offer on Friday night, Sydney FC captain Alex Brosque backed his squad to continue their run of form and finish as Champions.

The Sky Blues can set two new records on Friday, for consecutive matches undefeated and goals scored in a season, and Brosque is hoping that these records can help forge new memories, five years on from Sydney FC’s most recent trophy triumph.

“I’d like to write some new history,” Brosque said.

“It’s always good to look back but I think I’d like a more recent memory to get excited about.

“If you look back its surprising that it’s been that long actually, so it’s good motivation to keep our run going and hopefully after this weekend be top of the table.

“It’s hard to compare sides as each year that passes the league gets a quicker and a lot different to what it used to be,” he continued.

“I do think this squad has what it takes to be Champions. It seems to be clicking at the moment, there are some areas to improve and if we do tweak those areas a little bit then we do have a Championship side.”

With so much on offer for those in attendance at Allianz Stadium on Friday night, Brosque was still wary of the threat that Melbourne City pose, as he stated that the records and first place won’t come easy against the Victorians.

“They’re very difficult, on their day they’re a fantastic team,” Brosque said.

“They’ve got some good leadership there with Paddy [Kisnorbo] at the back and he drives them forward.

“They’re a real threat, they like to attack in numbers but being at home I’m confident we’ll get a good turnout at Allianz Stadium and carry on what we’ve been doing.”
