Sydney FC NPL NSW Head Coach Jim van Weeren has called for his squad to recapture their early season form as the race for the Finals Series heats up.

The Sky Blues face Mt Druitt at Popondetta Park on Saturday, where they’ve enjoyed success in recent seasons, and van Weeren said his side we hungry to overturn a run of less than ideal results.

“We’re aiming to recapture our early season form,” he said.

“We have three league matches remaining, and we desire to get back to our early season form.

“We are still in touch with the top five. We will likely need to win our remaining matches to get into the top four, but it must start with an improved performance against Mt Druitt this week.

“The boys are hungry to get back out there and turn it around.

“Playing Mt Druitt at Poppondetta Park is always a challenge,” he continued.

“We have done well out there in our recent fixtures, but we know they will be hungry for a result, we are expecting a tough match.”

Reflecting on his sides recent results, van Weeren said it was lapses in concentration that have hurt his side in recent weeks.

“We were punished for our mistakes by a ruthless Rockdale team on the weekend,” he said.

“We all learn from them and move onto this weekend verse Mt Druitt.

“We created a few good opportunities and could have scored a few goals ourselves, that’s positive.

“We had some defensive moments that weren’t up to standard, and we know that opposition teams will make you pay for those errors.”
