University of New South Wales (UNSW) Korean FC Team won their first trophy in the inaugural Sydney FC Korean Futsal Cup held in glorious sunshine at Golden Goal Futsal Centre in Ryde on Sunday.

University of New South Wales (UNSW) Korean FC Team won their first trophy in the inaugural Sydney FC Korean Futsal Cup held in glorious sunshine at Golden Goal Futsal Centre in Ryde on Sunday.

In a thrilling final UNSW Korean FC defeated New College 7-4 with Hanuri FC winning third place.

The Tournament’s Most Valuable Player award went to Sang Woo Na from UNSW Korean FC.

UNSW Captain Jin Sin was thrilled for his team: “We came in as the underdogs and we were very happy to win our first tournament with such a high standard of participating teams.”

The hotly contested tournament featured 16 teams from the Korean Australian Community and was hosted by the Korean Soccer Association Australia and supported by Sydney FC and AFC Asian Cup Australia 2015.

The tournament was held as part of the Harmony through Football Program linking Hyundai A-League Clubs with Multicultural communities.

Asian Cup Local Organising Committee CEO, Michael Brown presented the winning trophy and said: “The Asian Cup Local Organising Committee is thrilled to be working with the Korean Soccer Association Australia. The Futsal today was played in great spirit and we look forward to working with the community on other events.”

The Sydney FC Korean Futsal Cup was a joint initiative between the Korean Soccer Association in Australia, Sydney FC, the AFC Asian Cup 2015 and Football Federation Australia-s Harmony through Football Program, proudly supported by the Department of Regional Australia, Local Government, Arts and Sport, SBS, Department of Immigration and Citizenship and Red Elephant Projects.

The AFC Asian Cup 2015 will be held from January 9-31, 2015 in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra and Newcastle.
