Moments That Mattered:

  1. GREEN SHOT TIPPED OVER – 13’ – Green picks up the ball on the left wing, beats a Jets defender before hitting a dipping effort towards goal from range which Coelho tips over and Brush heads behind from the resultant corner.
  2. VINE GOAL – 32’ – Ibini and Hawkesby link up to find Vine wide right and the wide player lofts a fantastic shot over the top of the outstretched palm of Coehlo and into the far corner for her second goal of the season.
  3. SIEMSEN GOAL 61’ – A fantastic ball forward by Green puts Siemsen on a collision course with goalkeeper Coelho and when the ball ricochets into the sky, Siemsen is first to react, chesting the ball and volleying it spectacularly into the net from the edge of the box.
  4. GREAT SAVE WHYMAN – 82’ – A hopeful ball forward from the Jets releases House on goal but as she tries to round Whyman, Jada is down quickly to prevent her from going past and keep the score 2-0.

Sydney FC’s young guns remain the only Westfield W-League club with a 100% record and sit proudly on top of the ladder following this afternoon’s 2-0 win over Newcastle Jets at Cromer Park.

The Sky Blues took the lead through a brilliant left wing effort from Vine which looped beyond Coelho in the Jets goal in the 32nd minute.

It remained 1-0 until the 61st minute when Siemsen latched onto a long ball from Green, collided with the keeper before chesting the loose ball and hitting a volley into the net.

The Jets almost struck back in the last ten however a fabulous save from Whyman denied House from making it a nervy final few minutes for the Sky Blues to hold onto a 2-0 win.

What they said:

Ante Juric: “I’m obviously happy, result wise it’s always nice. I’m just happy with the effort and output the girls are putting in and they deserve what they’re getting at the moment. We dominated a bit more than last time.

“We deserved the result. For Remy to score I was super happy, it was her best game today and it’s good for the team when a striker starts to score.”

Remy Siemsen: “It was so good, you could see in my celebration how excited I was to get the goal. I’ve been unlucky the last four games, one cleared off the line and two hitting the post, so to get a goal on my home field was super special.

“We had a great game today, we really stepped up as a team and hopefully we can continue this winning streak.”
