Terry’s Time With Alex Brosque

Captain and club legend Alex Brosque is set to notch the most Hyundai A-League appearances in Sky Blue this weekend, surpassing former Sydney FC great Terry McFlynn.

We had a chat to Terry on his time and thoughts of Brosquey ahead of this milestone:

Q: What were your first impressions of Brosquey when he came into the squad back in ’06?

A: Playing against Brosquey in first season, he was always a handful, I remember him scoring two goals against us up at Suncorp. When we got the news that he was coming here, everyone at the club was thrilled and excited to have him.

Q: How do you feel about him surpassing your record this weekend?

A: Records are there to be broken and it’s a great honor for someone of Alex’s standing in the game to get this record. Leading this club to the heights he has as Captain, it’s only fitting he gets this and many more accolades to come.

Q: With him leaving in 2011, did you have the feeling he would come back to the club and become Captain one day?

A: We roomed together and were very close so on a personal level, it was sad losing a teammate and on a professional one, a fantastic footballer. The move was what he wanted in terms of testing himself but we kept in contact and I knew he’d come back. As he said, it was his club. Chatting with him back in 2014, we were all over the moon when he decided to come back.

Q: Do you have any particular fond of funny memory of your playing time with him?

A: Overall, he’s a wonderful and great man – His passion and desire to win week in week out, his care for everyone at the club from players, to staff, to the supporters. He’s one of the most genuine people I’ve met in the game.

Q: How would you sum up Brosquey as a player and a person in 3 words?

A: Fantastic human being.
