Sydney FC Head Coach Ian Crook has confirmed that Terry McFlynn will lead Sydney FC for the 2012/13 Hyundai A-League season.

The arrival of former Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero, who captained the bianconeri for 11 years, had raised questions in the media over whether he would be given the role at the Sky Blues.

But Crook was adamant McFlynn is the man: “In terms of the captaincy it will stay the same.

“He-ll (Del Piero) come into our leadership group that-s for certain, but Terry McFlynn is our club captain and with Brett and Adam Griffiths and Pascal, he-ll come into that group, but certainly things won-t change with the actual armband.”

The new arrival went straight into his first training session with the squad today at the Allianz Stadium, shrugging off the jetlag from the 30 hour flight from Turin.

“He-s obviously got some great touches,” said Crook. “It was supposed to be a short and sharp session but I think everyone-s trying to impress a little bit which was great.

“We-re delighted to have him here doing what he wants to do and what we want him to do.”

The training session was watched another large selection of Australian and foreign media which increased the intensity for of the players.

“It-s a fantastic day for Sydney FC and a fantastic day for football in Australia,” said captain Terry McFlynn.

“To have someone of Alessandro-s credentials and football pedigree gracing our football pitches week in, week out is an honour and a privilege to be associated with.”

Sydney FC will be back at the Allianz to train this Sunday after which they will be presented with their shirts for the upcoming season. Training starts at 10am.

The Sky Blues has also had to make some adjustments to its pre season program following the unavailability of Budgewoi Sports Ground for Saturday-s proposed match.

The Sydney FC v Newcastle match, due to be played on Saturday has been cancelled, but Sydney FC will now play the Central Coast Mariners in a behind closed doors friendly next Wednesday at Allianz Stadium.
