Tavares Praises League As He Prepares To Roar

Having had time to settle in in Sydney, Sky Blues Mickael Tavares has praised the standard of the Hyundai A-League as he prepares to face Brisbane Roar on Sunday.

While he hasn’t seen too much of Brisbane Roar, he is familiar with one of their stars, with Tavares having played with Roar midfielder Thomas Broich during their time at FC Nurnburg, an encounter that while he’s looking forward too he isn’t particularly earmarking.

“I like the football in Australia,” Tavares said.

“The league is progressing, it’s a new young league but I’m surprised at the level and the young good players that the league has.

“In a few years it will only get better, the quality of the teams is good and I really enjoy it at the moment.

“It’s better now we have settled [in Sydney]. We don’t have to move from hotel to hotel, it’s great to have this apartment and be close to the training ground, it’s good,” he continued.

“I watched the Roar’s last game against the Wanderers but I didn’t watch too many before.

“I know one player from my time at Nurnburg when I was on loan there, Thomas Broich. It will be good to see Thomas but I’m not especially looking forward to playing against him, every game is the same for me.

“This one is not more attractive than other ones, every game is important so we have to give everything and I hope that it will be good and we can get the three points.”

Tavares is eager to return to play at Allianz Stadium on Sunday as he said the fans provide an extra lift to players to perform well as he set his sights on reaching first place and clinching the Grand Final during his time at Sydney FC.

“When you play at home it’s always a motivation because the crowd is behind you,” he said.

“You are even more motivated to do good and show to the fans that we have a good team and that they didn’t come for nothing.

“For me I want to achieve the title, the Grand Final,” he continued.

“We are in a good way to finish first, maybe it wasn’t before but now we are only two points off first so we have to keep winning game after game.”
