Sydney splits points in six goal thriller

Sydney FC’s young-guns have extended their lead at the top of the National Youth League ladder to 10-points after scoring a thrilling 3-all draw with Adelaide United on Saturday at Hindmarsh Stadium.

For the first time in 13 matches Sydney FC-s National Youth League team has been forced to share the points, with the Sky Blue young-guns playing out a thrilling 3-all draw with Adelaide United today at Hindmarsh Stadium.

Sydney striker, Chris Payne set the tone for what would be a blistering first half, opening the scoring after only four minutes, before a fifteen minute blitz from the home side saw it claim a comfortable 3-1 advantage inside the first half-hour.

Returning from senior duty, defender Antony Golec continued the scoring spree and narrowed the gap to one just before the break, and when Payne claimed his second shortly after the restart the scores were level and the stage was set for a thrilling finish to the round-15 encounter.

Goal-keeper, Vedran Janjetovic was the hero for Sydney with 17 minutes remaining, denying the Reds their second penalty of the game with a great save against Matthew Mullen.

Both sides had opportunities to claim all three points in the closing stages but neither could find the net and the enthralling match finished all even.

Sydney will be searching for its 11th win of the season when it faces off against its closest rivals, the Queensland Roar in two weeks time at Suncorp Stadium.
