The task may be tough but the equation is simple. Sydney FC has just four games remaining and needs to win them all to scrape into the Hyundai A-League semis, starting this Saturday night against front-runner, Adelaide United.

“We-re due a change in fortune, we-ve beaten Adelaide this season and we actually played well against them last-time at Hindmarsh,” said Sydney coach, John Kosmina. “We-ve got to win four games and give ourselves a chance of making the finals, it-s as simple as that.”

“We-re actually getting better and better week by week. We lack a little bit of experience at the back but the players are getting better. It-s important to believe in ourselves enough and want it enough and we can turn it around.”

Turning it around has been made a little tougher for the Sky Blues with marquee star, John Aloisi and experienced midfielder, Bobby Petta both missing the trip South due to minor injuries, but the side has been boosted by the return of Northern Irishman, Terry McFlynn, who-s been added to the bench along with impressive young prospect, Kofi Danning.

“Tezza-s straight back onto the bench, he-s effervescent, he-s a good bubbly character and it-s good to have him back in the squad. He-s done well enough at training for two weeks now to come straight back in,” said Kosmina.

“It-s been very frustrating,” added McFlynn. “Obviously when you-re injured you can-t help the team, you can-t physically get out on the park and contribute towards the end result was very frustrating but like I said the rehab-s gone really well and thankfully the boss has put me back on the bench this week.”

Having overcome a serious knee injury just in time for the fight to the finish, McFlynn believes Sydney can defy its doubters.

“It-s definitely realistic when you look around at everyone in the change-room, the players we-ve got. It-s been a frustrating season all-round, injuries etcetera, but I don-t see why four wins is out of the question,” said the 27-year-old. “We-ve all talked about it collectively, what we need to do in the last four games this season, we have to win all four and that-ll give us a bit of momentum, hopefully going into the finals.”

The Sky Blues- must-win clash with the Reds will be played at Adelaide Oval, with kick-off at 8pm Saturday night, Sydney time.
