Sydney FC today officially unveiled its playing strips for the 2013/14 Hyundai A-League season with Sydney FC and apparel partner adidas working together to design kits that reflect the traditions of the Sky Blues.

Sydney FC will play its home matches in traditional sky blue shirts, although slightly lighter in colour, with a continuation of the navy blue pin stripes, tweaked slightly to feature a sunken navy blue neckline. The home strip also features navy blue shorts and sky blue socks.

The popular black away jersey has been retained for the 2013/14 season although the front of the strip features horizontal shale panelling, complimented by shale shorts and black socks with a sky blue trim.

Sydney FC fans with a sense of history will be pleased to see orange return to the playing strip with Sydney FC goalkeepers taking the field at Allianz Stadium wearing a vivid red and orange strip. The goalkeepers will also have sky blue and yellow alternate strips to use throughout the 2013/14 season.

“adidas’ global design team worked closely with Sydney FC management and players to select the design, colours, necklines and materials. This collaborative process has led to a range of kit which optimises player performance but also emphasises the iconic features that strongly represent the club,” said Meaghan Jeffrey, Head of Sports Marketing for Pacific.

“The new Home kit features a contemporary vertical pin stripe sublimation and contrast yoke neckline, utilising the traditional and iconic sky blue colours. Continuing the striping theme, the Away kit utilises a new colour approach with Sydney FC wearing black tonal horizontal stripes with key colour pops of sky blue throughout the kit. Both jerseys feature CLIMACOOL® technology which provides heat and moisture management through optimum ventilation.”

“We-re happy with the strips the Sydney FC team will wear into battle throughout the 2013/14 Hyundai A-League season,” said Sydney FC CEO Tony Pignata. “The sense of history is retained with the sky blue home strip, last season-s black away strip has been slightly altered while there is a return to the foundation colour orange as part of the primary goalkeeper strip. We think we have been able to work with adidas to design strips that reflect the traditions of Sydney FC and the need to offer fans a shirt they want to wear with pride.”

The strip, which will be available for sale on 5 September (Thursday), was unveiled as Sydney FC returned to training today for the final phase of pre season following the successful training camp in Italy.

Socceroo midfielder Richard Garcia trained with his Sydney FC team mates for the first time after joining fellow recruits Nick Carle, Pedj Bojic, Matt Jurman, Marc Warren and Corey Gameiro at the Sky Blues for the 2013/14 season.

Garcia and Gameiro were joined by Sydney FC goalkeeper Vedran Janjetovic in showing off the new Sydney FC strip.

Coach Frank Farina re-assembled his troops at the club-s Macquarie University training base to put the squad through the final six weeks of pre season that will see the Sky Blues play four more matches before the season opener against Newcastle Jets on Friday 11 October at Allianz Stadium.
