Sydney FC Thank Departing Players

Sydney FC would like to thank departing A-League players Alex Baumjohann, Patrick Flottmann, and Jordi Swibel as the Sky Blues announce their retained squad list for the A-League 2021/22 season.

German midfielder Baumjohann departs having won his first titles in Australia and as a member of a squad which reached a third consecutive Grand Final this year.

The 34-year old said he was grateful to have been part of the Sky Blue family.

“Thanks for two amazing years,” he said. “I’d especially like to thank my teammates, staff and supporters who made me feel at home from day one.

“I hope you guys enjoyed watching me play in Sky Blue.”

Flottmann leaves after a successful youth career with the club and with A-League Premiership and Championship medals.

“It’s been a pleasure being part of the most successful club in A-League history but now it’s time for a new challenge and a chance to earn regular playing time,” said Flottmann.

“I have enjoyed my time representing the Sky Blues and wish the club the best for the future.”

Young striker Swibel, who played an instrumental part in the Sky Blues Youth League Championship in 2019, made 11 appearances from the bench for the A-League side.

“Sydney FC will always hold a special place in my heart as the club I supported as a young boy and as the club where I made my professional debut,” he said.

“I will always cherish my time at Sydney FC, as well as everything I’ve learned.

“I’d also like to thank everyone who has helped me develop, as I move onto a new phase in my football career.”

Head Coach Steve Corica paid tribute to the departing squad members.

“I’d like to thank Alex, Patrick and Jordi for their contribution during their time with the club,” he said.

“It’s always a tough situation when players move on, but their attitude and professionalism has been first class.

“I wish them all the best for their future careers.”

Sydney FC expect to make further additions to the A-League squad in the coming weeks, while the club also continues contract talks with Captain Alex Wilkinson, strikers Bobô and Trent Buhagiar, goalkeeper Tom Heward-Belle and midfielder Chris Zuvela.
