The trio formed part of the stellar cast assembled at the Sydney Football Stadium from all 10 clubs to launch the 2011/12 Hyundai A-league season under the slogan “We are Football”.
Sydney FC-s season starts on Saturday night when it takes on rivals Melbourne Victory in front of 40,000 plus fans at Etihad Stadium in a clash that is looming as one of the biggest nights in Australian domestic football history.
“We start the season very confident,” McFlynn said. “We-ve had a very structured Pre Season and we are ready. We have a lot of experience in the club, bringing Brett Emerton in was massive and we are confident going into the new season.”
Lavicka backed his Captains sentiments, added that Sydney FC was excited by the arrival of Emerton but warned that all of the Sydney FC squad needed to work hard to improve on the 2010/11 season.
“We are very happy that Brett Emerton has joined Sydney FC. He-s a massive, massive lift to Sydney FC as a team and also as a club,” Lavicka said.
“We are happy Brett is here but Sydney FC is not just about Brett Emerton so we are working hard as a team to achieve better results. The boys worked very hard in Pre Season and definitely we are going to improve our results from last season.”
Emerton was equally excited about the season and declared one of the factors for returning to play for Sydney FC after eight seasons at Blackburn was to win some silverware.
“I came home to play for Sydney FC to put something back into the game but also to win something,” Emerton said. “We start the season full of hope and hopefully after last year we can get some good results and win the Championship.”
