Sydney FC has announced Westfield Matildas Danielle Brogan, Caitlin Foord, Alanna Kennedy and Samantha Kerr as the first signings for the Sky Blues’ 2012/13 W-League squad.
Brogan and Foord starred for the Sky Blues squad last season while Kerr (Perth Glory) and Kennedy (Newcastle Jets) will offer Alen Stajcic-s squad a fresh injection of talent.
“I-m really pleased that the first four signings have been completed,” Stajcic said. “Broges (Brogan) and Caitlin (Foord) are very important members of the squad and we-re delighted that Sam Kerr and Alanna Kennedy will be joining us to strengthen the squad.
“We-re in the process of finalising a few more signings but the squad is shaping up very well.”
The signatures of Foord (17), Kennedy (17) and Kerr (18) gives Sydney FC some of the best young talent in Australian and Brogan believes the young stars, already capped for Australia, will combine with the core of experienced players to propel the Sky Blues back at the top of the W-League.
“We-ve signed some very exciting young girls who have a big future and I really believe they will combine well with the experienced players to make sure Sydney FC gets back to the top and wins a trophy,” said Brogan, herself only 24.
“I-m also looking forward to helping the younger girls who are emerging because they-ve got unbelievable talent.
“I-ve been at Sydney FC since the start of the W-League and I-ve always been someone who shows loyalty so I-m looking forward to pulling on the Sky Blues shirt again for this season.
“We-ve been training together for a while now with Staj (Coach Alen Stajcic) and we-re all pretty excited about the upcoming season. The W-League has come so far in a short space of time and we know we have to step up and move forward to be successful.”
