Sydney FC has completed the signing of Chilean international star striker Maria Jose Rojas for the W-League 2021/22 season.
Rojas is the ‘gem’ of Chilean women’s football and has played professionally in seven countries and five continents, including Germany, United States, Japan, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Chile and Australia.

She has also represented her country at the 2019 Women’s World Cup and the 2018 Copa America.
In club football she has played in the 2018 Copa Libertadores and the UEFA Women’s Champions League in 2017.
Her experience in Australia extends to two seasons at Canberra and Adelaide United, with Sydney FC winning the race to sign the 33-year old ahead of a number of other W-League clubs and FA Women’s Super League club Birmingham City.
“I’m extremely excited to be coming to play at Sydney FC,” she said.
“They were the benchmark throughout the regular season last year and deservedly won the Premiers Plate.
“I’m delighted to see so many of the Sky Blue players back for another campaign and I’m hoping I can add some experience and goals to an already hugely talented squad.
“The expansion of the league, an extended Finals Series and the new Club Championship are going to make it the best season yet and I can’t wait to be a part of it in Sky Blue.”
Head Coach Ante Juric believes signing the Chilean international is major coup for Sydney FC and further strengthens his already healthy squad.
“Maria is just the type of player we need and she brings a wealth of international experience with her,” he said.
“She has great pace, a fantastic first touch, the ability to beat a player and score goals, so I’m sure she is going to give the Members something to come and watch.
“It gives us real competition for places and that bodes well for this season.”
Rojas goes by the name “Cote” to her friends and has represented Chile on 44 occasions scoring 11 times for her country.
She is a big hit in her native country with over 124,000 followers on Instagram.
She will arrive in Sydney next month to begin training with the Sky Blues squad.
