Locally born and bred Sydney FC players Sebastian Ryall and Ivan Necevski have stated the Sky Blues would embrace the passion that the first ever Sydney Derby will generate at Parramatta Stadium tomorrow.

Ryall and Necevski, who are among the 16 Sydney players who played their junior football in the Sydney region, both had a spring in their step after the Sky Blues completed preparations with a spirited training session at Macquarie University.

The pair will form part of the Sydney FC rear guard that will take on Western Sydney Wanderers in the historic inaugural “Sydney Derby” and admitted the match did hold extra significance.

“I-m a Sydney boy, I started my football here and I-m proud to play for Sydney FC so this game is something special,” Ryall said. “Derbies all over the world are passionate games with neither team taking a backward step and this will be the same.

“We-ve got a good team and we-re confident we can come away with the win.

“When I was a kid I had aspirations to play football at the highest level and it must be great for the young kids in Sydney now to look at this game and dream of one day being a professional player.”

Sydney FC custodian Necevski was equally excited about the match and declared friendships would be put to one side on Saturday as Sydney FC and Western Sydney go head-to-head for bragging rights.

“I-m still mates with some of the guys who played at Sydney FC and moved to Western Sydney but that friendship gets put on hold on Saturday,” Necevski said. “I-m going out there to win the game, just like the rest of the Sydney FC players.

“We-ve all watched how special the Melbourne derby has become and also the passion in the Newcastle v Central Coast derby so it-s fantastic for Sydney FC, football in Sydney and the fans that this derby is finally here.”
