Moments That Mattered:

1. Riera Goal – 24’ – Western Sydney’s striker gets enough on the ball to guide it in off a Baumjohann free kick.

2. Janjetovic Red Card – 26’ – Moment of madness as Janjetovic is caught out and saves Le Fondre’s goal bound shot outside the box.

3. Brosque Goal – 45+1’ – Brillante’s driving run results in a shot that bounces off the post into Brosque to tap in.

4. Grant Chance – 45+2 – The right back comes within inches with a volleyed effort.

5. De Jong Goal – 57’ – Dutch delight as Siem bangs home from close range from a Calver’s flick from a corner.

6. Tratt Goal – 81’ – A Sky Blue debut and a goal to match as the youngster thumps a header into the net.

In a pulsating first half it was the cross-town rivals who took the lead through the slightest of touches from Riera off a free kick midway through the half.

Three minutes later Janjetovic had a handball howler, getting caught out of position and tipping the ball away for a corner from Le Fondre’s shot when outside the box. He is promptly shown the red card.

It gave the Sky Blues the upper hand and they restored parity through captain Brosque on the stroke of halftime after a brilliant Brillante run.

Corica’s men continued in the same vain in the second half and took the lead through Dutchman De Jong finishing well at close range from a corner.

The result was put beyond doubt ten minutes from time as Sky Blue debutant Tratt thumped his header into the top right to send the Sydney FC faithful into raptures.

Corica’s men now turn their attention to their next match away to Perth Glory next Friday night.

What they said: Steve Corica

“It was pretty crazy conditions out there. It’s all about being focused from then on. It was crazy as well on the pitch.

“They played quite direct in behind us as we pressed them like we expected.

“It was a good performance from our boys. Sometimes it’s hard to break down a side that’s a man down, as they stay more compact.

“We had a lot of ball and managed to break them down and get the goals we needed. The first goal was very important getting back to 1-1. Once we did that, I think we were very comfortable.

“You could see their confidence start to grow again. The boys were disappointed last week and we wanted a response and we got it tonight.

“It’s a derby game and we expect to win and I’m pleased for the boys and everyone at the club that we did tonight.”
