Sydney FC-s 2013/14 Hyundai A-League pre season campaign will kick off with three traditional Community matches against Football NSW State League sides during July.

The Sky Blues will start by playing Belmore United (July 10) and Sydney University (July 16) to warm up for the clash with J-League side Sagan Tosu in Japan on July 24 before the annual clash with Macarthur Rams on July 31.

The three matches continue Sydney FC-s commitment to taking the Sky Blues stars to grassroots State League clubs to start the pre season.

Sydney FC coach Frank Farina will use the first two matches against Belmore United and Sydney University as preparation for the trip to Japan before continuing to remould the squad with further matches throughout August and September.

“It-s exciting to have locked in the first few games in what is going to be a tough and important off season for Sydney FC,” Farina said. “We-ve said all along that we need to play a lot of games and work hard in the pre season to ensure we hit the ground running against Newcastle on 11 October.

“We-re very fortunate to have the match in Japan on 24 July and we have organised the matches against Belmore United and Sydney University to give us a couple of hit outs before we leave.

“I think we need 12-15 games on top of the tough pre season training schedule we have planned and this is a good start.

“As well as the matches it is important for us as a club to get out to the grassroots State League clubs to help engage with the Sydney FC fans and Members and those who proudly support their local teams.”

Sydney FC will play further matches against Football NSW State League sides leading into clashes with Hyundai A-League opponents ahead of the 2013/14 season opener against Newcastle Jets at Allianz Stadium on 11 October.
