Sydney FC coach Frank Farina was pleased with the Sky Blues- first training session on the pitch after putting his charges through an intense 80 minute session in front of 1400 fans at Stadio Comunale Picchi in Jesolo this morning.

The Sky Blues hit the ground running with the first of two training runs for Monday after spending Sunday recuperating from the 24 hour flight with two recovery sessions that included pool work, stretching and some active recovery.

The session was conducted in 30 degree temperatures despite the 9.30am start but Farina was pleased with the way all 22 players got through the session, kicking off a three-week training camp.

“It was nice to get out onto the pitch and have a good workout after the long flight and yesterday-s recovery work,” Farina said. “The boys looked sharp and credit to them for the way they looked after themselves and the medical and conditioning staff for the work they put in yesterday to have them ready to go this morning.

“This morning-s training run was the first of a double session but the players were lively and put in the hard yards, which is what the trip is all about. We-re very thankful for the treatment we are receiving and the facilities are tremendous but we-re here to prepare for the season and today was a good start.

“We-ll do another tough session this afternoon as we build fitness levels.”

Farina also thanked the 1400 fans who came to watch the Sky Blues train this morning, some of whom lined up from 6.30am to watch the session and catch a glimpse of Alessandro Del Piero.

“We have been extremely happy with the way we have been welcomed to Jesolo and to have that many people come to watch our training session is great for Sydney FC but also a very good message for the A-League,” Farina said. “There-s no doubt most of them are here to see Alessandro but we are exposing the other 21 players to another football market, one of the biggest and most passionate fan bases in the world – Italy.”
