Sydney FC Hit Dunbar Rovers For Six

Sydney FC have cruised to a first win of the pre-season with a comfortable 6-0 win over Dunbar Rovers at Leichhardt Oval.

Moments That Mattered:

  1. Ivanovic Goal – 11’ – Ivanovic is played clean through by Baumjohann and the youngster coolly finishes to the keeper’s right.
  2. McGowan Goal 15’ – A neat passing move involving Ninkovic and Baumjohann sees the latter reach the byline and cross to an unmarked McGowan at the far post.
  3. O’Neill Goal – 22’ – Barbarouses robs the centre half and gives the ball to O’Neill who is clear to pass the ball easily past the keeper.
  4. Ivanovic Goal 37’ – A brilliant through ball from Baumjohann finds the youngster unmarked again and he slots it home off the post.
  5. Ivanovic Goal (pen) – 50’ – Ivanovic is brought down in the box and steps up to rifle in the spot kick and complete his hat-trick.
  6. Swibel Goal 78’ – King crosses the ball from the left to an unmarked Swibel who slots the ball into the roof of the net.

Sydney FC have romped to an comprehensive 6-0 win over NPL NSW Men’s 3 side Dunbar Rovers at Leichhardt Oval.

A Luke Ivanovic hat-trick and three assists from new German signing Alex Baumjohann were the highlights with goals for fellow debutant Ryan McGowan, Brandon O’Neill and a first senior goal for youngster Jordi Swibel.

Most players played 45 to 60 minutes with a number of Academy products getting some vital minutes towards the end of the game.

A crowd of 962 watched on and helped raise money for the Sydney FC Foundation through the $5 gate receipts.

Sydney FC meet St George FA on Tuesday night at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium, Kogarah in another game where proceeds go toward the Foundation and junior development.

Luke Ivanovic:- “I’m really pleased to have scored my first hat-trick for the club, particularly in the first game of the season which is a good start for me.

“Of course there’s still a long way to go until the A-League season begins but I feel good after that game and am looking forward to the next few weeks immensely.”

Steve Corica:- “It was a great hit out and good that many of the boys got 60 minutes into their legs which is important at this stage of the season.  

“We had some nice combination play, particularly by  the new boys who are fitting in very well already.

“Well done to Luke who scored his first hat-trick for the club with three well taken goals and also to Alex (Baumjohann) who created three of our four goals in the first half.
