Sydney FC has extended the contract of Head Coach Frank Farina for a further two years, which will see the former Socceroos coach pilot the Sky Blues through to the end of the 2014/15 season.

Farina took charge of the Sky Blues in late November and under Farina-s tenure Sydney FC has won five matches, drawn three and lost four to move from bottom of the table (10th) to 6th position on the Hyundai A-League ladder, scoring 22 goals and conceding 18.

In making the announcement, Sydney FC Chairman Scott Barlow acknowledged the positive change Farina has brought to Sydney FC.

“On behalf of the Sydney FC Board I-m delighted to announce that Frank Farina will continue as Head Coach of Sydney FC for the next two seasons,” Barlow said. “Frank has done an outstanding job under tough circumstances since he arrived at the club three months ago and we believe he can continue to take the team forward into next season and beyond.”

“We believe now is the ideal time to make this appointment as it enables us to accelerate our player recruitment for the 2013/14 season.

“With seven games remaining in the regular season we are confident that under Frank-s guidance we can finish the season strongly and qualify for the finals.”

Farina was thrilled with the opportunity but acknowledged the hard work still to be done for the rest of the 2012/13 campaign and then into next season.

“I-d like to thank the Board of Sydney FC, Chairman Scott Barlow and CEO Tony Pignata for the opportunity to get back into the A-League and now to take Sydney FC forward for the next two years,” Farina said. “It is certainly an honour to be the Sydney FC Head Coach.

“It is a job that comes with high expectations, which I welcome, and we look forward to assembling a squad that can challenge for honours over the next two years and continue the forward progress we have made this year as we strive for success in the current campaign.

“I-ve enjoyed working at Sydney FC over the last 12 weeks but I-m even more excited about finishing off the job this season and then getting down to some hard work in the off season so we are ready to go from the start next season.”

The Sky Blues will be looking for a fifth home win in a row when we take on fellow Finals contenders Adelaide United at Allianz Stadium this Saturday night (16th Feb). A win could give us breathing space over our Finals Series rivals, as the race gets down to the business end. We need every bit of support, so get buying your tickets from Ticketek and help the boys push for the Finals. Adults start from $25, kick off is 5.30pm.
