Sydney FC have been crowned the inaugural E-League Premiers after they drew with Melbourne Victory 5-5 on aggregate in Round 9 of the competition. The valuable point meant that although Sydney FC finished equal with Melbourne City FC on 22 points, they claimed the title based on their superior goal difference.

Sydney FC were led to victory by Samer Elbadar who had to play matches on both consoles this week due to the fact that his team mate, Mark Brijeski, is currently competing at the FUT Champions Cup in Manchester, England.
In the first leg, Samer scored twice in the opening 8 minutes to get off to the perfect start. His Melbourne Victory opponent, Mouad Zwed, pegged a goal back midway through the half, but was unable to add to the score line before the break. Mo did eventually equalise in the 53rd minute, but Samer struck again just after the hour mark and was able to hold on for an important win.

Going into the second leg on his less preferred console (PS4) again against Mouad Zwed, Samer knew that a win or a draw would secure the Premiership. The fact that Melbourne City FC won their match against Wellington Phoenix 4-3 on aggregate earlier in the evening added extra pressure to the match. With all the other E-League competitors watching on from inside the studio, Samer opened the scoring in the 40th minute to give himself a healthy buffer on aggregate going into the second half. Samer doubled his lead early in the second half which meant Mouad Zwed needed to score 4 goals to deny Sydney FC their title. Mo pegged a goal back in the 62nd minute and then added another two minutes later. Zwed scored again in the 90th minute to level the tie, but in the end the draw was enough to hand Sydney FC the inaugural E-League Premiership.
With the completion of the regular season, the action will now move to the E-League 2018 Finals Series which will be held on Thursday 26 April in Sydney.

After 9 rounds playing as a team, the competitors will now be looking for individual glory with the winner of the E-League 2018 Grand Final to receive a place at the FIFA 18 Global Series Play-Off Event, which is a qualification event for the FIFA eWorld Cup.
The format of the E-League 2018 Finals Series will see the bottom four (4) clubs (Brisbane Roar FC, Newcastle Jets, Melbourne Victory & Wellington Phoenix) play-off (7v10 and 8v9) with the winners to join the top six (6) clubs in the Quarter Final Round. This format will be mirrored for both consoles with a PS4 and Xbox champion eventually declared. The PS4 and Xbox champions will then play-off against each other, over two legs, on each console to determine the inaugural E-League Champion.
