Sydney FC will continue with its traditional Community-based start to the Hyundai A-League Pre Season by playing friendlies against NSW State League sides Macarthur Rams and St George Saints in August.

Sydney FC-s campaign will begin with the 4th annual clash with the Macarthur Rams at Campbelltown Stadium on Tuesday 14 August before taking on St George Saints at Kogarah-s WIN Jubilee Oval on 21 August.

The matches will be followed by further clashes against NSW Premier League sides as Sydney FC takes the team to the Sydney Football Community for the fifth straight season, in preparation for the 2012/13 Hyundai A-League.

Over the last four years Sydney FC has played 26 matches against NSW Premier League and State League clubs, injecting money back into the respective local football communities as well as giving football fans all over Sydney the opportunity to watch the Sky Blues play in their backyard.

“The Pre Season matches against State League sides around Sydney have been an important part of our football build up and Community-engagement program and we are pleased to announce the first two matches in that program will be against Macarthur and St George,” said Sydney FC interim CEO and GM Community & Game Development Stefan Kamasz.

“Sydney FC has built strong connections with the football communities in both areas and they will continue to be an important part of our Pre Season. We will play further matches against Premier League sides and make further announcements as we get closer to the start of the season”

Macarthur District Soccer Football Association General Manager, Glenn Armstrong, applauded the on-going working relationship Sydney FC shared with Macarthur Rams, which services a vast area of south-west Sydney and is home to Sydney FC and Socceroo star Brett Emerton.

“This is the 4th annual match between Macarthur Rams and Sydney FC and it is an important event to the people of Campbelltown and the football community in this area,” Mr Armstrong said. “We are grateful that Sydney FC will be continuing to support football in the Macarthur area.

“As a club and an area we are proud that Sydney FC will be opening its Pre Season against the Macarthur Rams as we work together to grow football in the region.”

St George Football Club President, Ross Gardner, was equally pleased the Sky Blues would be playing a match in the St George district, which is home to a large number of Sydney FC Members and fans.

“The match is a wonderful opportunity for Sydney FC, St George Football Club and the St George Association to work together to help promote football,” Mr Gardner said. “Having Sydney-s best take on St George-s best in our backyard is a great boost for football in the St George district.

“Last season-s match was a tremendous evening and exposed the many young participants in our area to senior football at State League and A-League level. We-re thrilled that Sydney FC will continue the tradition of playing St George in the Pre Season.”
