Sydney FC is set to contest the annual Hyundai A-League beyondblue Cup on Friday 13 April at Allianz Stadium against Melbourne Victory (kick off 7:50pm AEST).

In a Grand Final rematch, the Sky Blues will battle against the Victorian side in the final round of the 2017/18 regular season, where the Premiers Plate will be presented post-match to Head Coach Graham Arnold’s men.

This is the sixth year Sydney FC will host the match in support of beyondblue.

Sydney FC encourages supporters to make mental health a talking point with their families, friends and sports and community clubs.

Sydney FC Vice-Captain Alex Wilkinson said he is proud to be an ambassador for the beyondblue Cup and show people the positive effects of talking about their mental health and seeking support.

“The beyondblue Cup is always a fantastic occasion between the Hyundai A-League’s two biggest clubs. It’s a great opportunity to encourage our community to start a conversation about mental health,” Wilkinson said.

Research shows depression and anxiety affect three million Australians but only one third access treatment.

“It’s ok to speak up and seek support for your mental health. Talk to a family member, friend, GP or mental health professional,” Wilkinson said.

“Talking about mental health is the game changer.”

Ahead of the match, beyondblue Ambassador, Triple M commentator and former Sydney Swans player Troy Luff spoke to the team about his experience with anxiety and depression and the importance of talking about mental health.

Everyone is encouraged to come out to the game, show your support for beyondblue and make a difference to mental health in Australia by starting a conversation with your friends and family.
