Youngsters who attended Sydney FC-s adidas Holiday Clinics in September were given the unique chance to welcome new signing Alessandro Del Piero to Australia.
As part of the three day clinic the kids were invited to meet and greet all of the players, including the Italian superstar, and get autographs and photos.
“It-s always a fantastic opportunity for the young players to meet and chat with professional footballers,” said Community Football Officer Dan Barrett.
“They really get a lot out of it and it-s always one of their best memories of the clinic.
“This time they-ve had the chance to meet and have pictures with the whole of our first team, including our World Cup winning Italian.”
September-s clinics are the fourth and final of one of 2012 with around 500 players having taken part over the course of the year.
“I think we-ve achieved lot this year,” said Barrett. “We-ve been able to identify some good young juniors and it has also given them a good introduction to the club and might inspire them to become a professional footballer.
“I think we have been offering more of a football education. It-s more than just coming in and doing skills, drills and game related practices.
“The players are being introduced to the competencies that the A-League squad learn and we provide other things like lectures from Ian Crook, also Craig Duncan on health and nutrition. It-s not just a matter of working on the park,” continued Barrett.
“A lot of the thanks has to go to Ian Crook, he has a lot of input into the curriculum and the things we learn here.
“Next year we are looking to run a course with our W-League players to attract female participants to come in and work so we-ll see how that goes,” he concluded.
Sydney FC-s next adidas Holiday Clinics will get underway in January 2013.
