Form is thrown out the window in a derby, or so goes the cliche. Theo Kofinas tends to agree.

Heading into the first youth derby on Saturday at Campbelltown Stadium, the Sky Blues defender believes there’d be nothing sweeter than to replicate the efforts of the first team and beat the Wanderers on their own turf.

“It will be special, it won’t matter about form or anything like that. It will just be whoever wants it more,” said Kofinas.

“The first team beat them in the first derby so we want to follow in their footsteps and win our first game against Western Sydney.

“It’ll be even sweeter to beat them in their own backyard.”

After a horror 2011/12 season in which he was struck down with injury, Kofinas is relishing being back on the pitch, and credits the club for sticking by him.

“One of the reasons that I’m with Sydney FC is they helped me so much last year when I was injured,” he said.

“They said to spend last season as a rehab and to get myself ready for this season coming, so without the coaching staff I probably wouldn’t have been ready in time. It’s a big thankyou to them.”

So is there any question of his allegiance?

“I was born in Marrickville, I’m from the inner west. I’m 100% Sydney FC.”

The game at Campbelltown Stadium kicks off at 4:45pm.
