Sydney FC Foxtel Y-League striker Jordi Swibel has praised the Young Sky Blues’ goalscoring prowess after their undefeated start to the 2019/20 season.

The Young Sky Blues have scored 19 goals in four games, including a 6-0 drubbing of the Western Sydney Wanderers, with Swibel amongst the goals in a potent attacking force that’s pleasing the 20-year-old.

“We’ve had a very good start, the boys have been playing some really good football together,” Swibel said.

“We’ve scored 19 goals already which is nearly unheard of, we just keep improving each week.

“We have confidence in our defence and we know we can hurt teams going forward. We’ve got some quality players and they’re all doing a really good job at the moment which is helping us score goals.

“It’s good to get on the scoresheet, that’s my job as a striker and I’m just looking to get some more and help the team to win,” he continued.

“I haven’t got a goals target, I just want to win the NYL.

“I know if I’m playing well and working hard that the goals will come. I’m just focused on winning and going all the way this year.”

The Young Sky Blues take on the Newcastle Jets away on Sunday, with Head Coach Jimmy van Weeren’s charges triumphing 8-3 over the Novocastrians in the opening game of the season.

Swibel said it’ll be a much different encounter this time, after that one-sided affair in November, as he praised the environment at Sydney FC for delivering results on the pitch.

“It’s going to be a tough game on Sunday,” he said.

“We have the mentality in the squad now going into the Youth League, we know it’s going to be only eight games so pretty much every game is like a final.

“We’re expecting a tough game, especially after the Round 1 game against them. I’m confident we’ll get the result with the players we’ve got in our squad.

“Jimmy is great. He’s not only a great coach but a good man manager,” he continued.

“He talks to the boys off the pitch about what we’re doing and on the pitch that gives us confidence.

“We’ve also got Howard Fondyke helping out who’s got experience in the A-League and it was great to learn off Shane Smeltz when he was here too.

“The coaching staff are fantastic and that gives us the confidence to go out on the weekend and perform.”

Sydney FC’s Foxtel Y-League squad face the Newcastle Jets away at No.2 Sportsground on Sunday (kick off 4pm).
