Sutherland Shire Football Association (SSFA) enjoyed quite the day on Sunday at Seymour Shaw for the Sky Blues’ Westfield W-League Round 14 #SydneyDerby, with a range of community activities taking place.

A club record non-double header crowd of 2,519 packed into the ground for the spectacle, while upwards of 600 Sutherland Shire Football Association girls were involved throughout the day.

Kicking off outside the stadium, over 200 girls aged between 10-15 worked on all aspects of their game in mini-matches and various drills concentrating on passing and first touch, dribbling and shooting at goals prior to kick off in the pre-match SSFA skills session.

Following the skills session all the girls enjoyed an exclusive signing session with the non-playing players from the Sky Blues’ Westfield W-League squad.

Ahead of the match, inside the stadium, there was a march around the field with 24 of the 26 SSFA clubs participating, while girls also got involved handling the giant logo in the middle of the pitch and as player mascots as the two sides emerged for the clash.

At half time there were 40 girls involved in small side games, while the main attraction was the box to box race between the 9 year old players, with a group of 13 girls taking part with Cronulla Seagulls taking out line honours.

Sydney FC Fan Engagement Coordinator Ally Green said it was quite the show in the Sutherland Shire.

“It was a huge show of support at Seymour Shaw and it was a great day out,” she said.

“The performance on the field was matched off it and the half time box to box race was a real highlight, with everyone giving their all.

“It’s great to be involved with an association like SSFA and I’m excited for the future working with them.”
