Rockdale City Suns captain/coach Paul Reid said he’d love to face his former club Sydney FC in the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 16 after the club beat Perth SC on Wednesday night.

The NSW NPL club were too strong for the visitors at Illenden Sports Centre. Goals to Toufic Alameddine, Dylan Macallister and Marko Jesic led them to a 3-1 win in their Round of 32 clash.

The Suns are now through to the next round and dreaming of a possible match-up with a Hyundai A-League club in the Round of 16, potentially Sydney FC who also progressed on Wednesday night.

“Tonight was just amazing,” Reid told Fox Sports.

“I must admit I haven’t felt like that before a game for a long time. There were butterflies…it’s a really nice feeling [to win].

“We had a tough start to the season but the boys have really dug deep.

“It’s a massive result not only for the players but for the club. To get into the last 16 it’s a really good achievement for the players.”

FFA Cup wrap; goals galore

Reid has only taken the coaching reins of the side over the last few months after Branko Culina moved on from the club.

And the former Sydney FC midfielder who is still employed at Sydney in a community role is relishing working with his young squad and is hoping for a dream match-up with the Sky Blues in the next round.

“I just said to the coaching staff then ‘it’s going to be Sydney FC’ [in the last 16],” he said.

“It would be a dream come true really for the players and for Rockdale.

“I Spoke to [Sydney FC CEO] Tony [Pignata] this afternoon and he said ‘good luck’. We’ll see what happens in the draw.”
