Sydney FC strikers Corey Gameiro and Joel Chianese notched first half doubles as the Sky Blues scored an impressive 7-1 victory over Sydney University in a pre season Community match at Macquarie University tonight.

Fellow striker Mitch Mallia also scored in the opening period as the Sky Blues raced to a 5-1 half time lead before Youth Team striker Chris Naumoff scored a second half brace to round out the scoring.

The Sky Blues went into the match without Brett Emerton, Rhyan Grant, Pedj Bojic (All Stars), Sebastian Ryall (ill), Terry McFlynn, Pascal Bosschaart and Yairo Yau (injured) and with Frank Farina in Canberra completing his Pro Licence, Rado Vidosic took control of the side.

Sydney FC lined up in a 4-3-3 formation as the Sky Blues continued its reinvention under Farina and Vidosic.

The first half saw the Sky Blues dominate possession and implement a quick tempo game plan and it paid dividends as the front three of Chianese, Gameiro and Mallia posed a constant threat. The trio combined brilliantly and by half time had hit the back of the net five times with Mallia first on the sheet with a neat finish in the 5th minute.

Sydney University levelled the scores on the 20 minute mark when they pounced on a poor pass out of defence to leave Ivan Necevski exposed in the Sydney FC goal.

Sydney FC restored its lead when Mallia turned provider with a delightful through ball setting up Gameiro for his first goal of the match on 22 minutes. A short time later it was Chianese setting up Gameiro for his second goal as the front three were trading goals and assists in a polished performance.

Twin strikes from Chianese in the shadows of half time saw the Sky Blues go to the break leading 5-1 before Vidosic rang in the changes to allow all players some much-needed game time.

One second half substitution, Naumoff, looked impressive again, scoring two goals for the second consecutive week in his 30-minute cameo performance.

Sydney FC now prepares for its clash with J-League side Sagan Tosu on 24 July in Japan as the squad makes the first of two overseas trips during the pre season.

Sydney FC: Janjetovic (Necevski 45), Warren, Jurman, Tiago (Petkovski 60), Triantis, Carle, Gligor (MacDonald 45), Abbas, Chianese (Powell 45), Gameiro (Naumoff 60), Mallia.
