Stambolziev Happy With Home Debut

Sydney FC new boy Robert Stambolziev was pleased to finally get onto the pitch on Saturday night as he made his first appearance in a Sky Blues shirt against the Melbourne Victory.

After joining in January, Stambolziev was forced to sit out Sydney FC’s trip to Perth through injury, but through recuperation he was able to make his debut at home and the former Panathinaikos winger is now hoping to accrue even more game time in the coming weeks.

“Going on at 3-2, I just went on to help the team,” he said.

“I think as soon as I got on, a minute later we scored and I was just celebrating the goal and trying to help the team get a win at the end.

“To finally get on the pitch was great. Hopefully I can get some more time in the future now.

“You just want to get out there and be a part of it,” he continued.

“I took it like every game. Every game is a big game.”

Soaking up the game-day atmosphere, Stambolziev was in awe of The Cove’s tifo which read “thanks for the memories”, and it is memories he himself is hoping to create during his time at Sydney FC for the remainder of 2015.

“I was excited, it was my first game with the squad,” he said.

“Going into Allianz and seeing my shirt hanging up, it was surreal.

“I was told Sydney had great fans, but being told and actually seeing it was a different thing. I thought they were great during the game,” he continued.

“The really helped us get back into the game and almost pushed us on to win it. I hope I can please them during my time here.”
