Socceroo call-up for Alex Brosque

Sydney FC-s Alex Brosque is on his way to Oman after being added to the Socceroos squad in a great reward for his brilliant form this season.

Brosque hasn-t represented Australia for more than three years but now is right in contention to add to his tally of four Socceroos caps.

The 26-year-old forward is enjoying a purple patch under new Sydney FC coach Vitezslav Lavicka.

Brosque has been in strong form recently, including setting up all three goals in the win against Wellington two weeks ago.

His focus this season has been concentrating on A-League football but he refused to shelve international ambitions and now has a real shot at impressing with a view to pushing hard for World Cup selection.

Brosque had barely unpacked from Saturday night-s loss to the Gold Coast when he was informed he-d been added to Pim Verbeek-s squad for the AFC Asian Cup 2011 Qualifier against Oman.

“I-m wrapped. It was totally unexpected but I can-t wait to get over to Oman and join the rest of the team. It (making the National Team) is something I haven-t been thinking about but I guess it was always in the back of my mind. I-ve just been trying to concentrate on playing well and consistently with Sydney FC.

“I-m looking forward to training with the team for a week in Oman and I-ll be looking to learn from the experience and if I get a chance to get on the pitch I-ll be giving it my best shot.”

The match will be played at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex on Saturday in Muscat, Oman with live and exclusive coverage on FOX SPORTS 1 commencing from 12:30am AEDT on Sunday 15 November.
