Summary

Sydney FC 2 (Bobô 45’, Mierzejewski 94’) def Perth Glory 0

Sydney FC are back where they belong – on top of the Hyundai A-League – and undefeated following a comfortable 2-0 win over Perth Glory at ‘Fortress Allianz’ tonight.

Graham Arnold’s men dominated proceedings from start to finish, but they waited until the 45th minute to break the deadlock with Bobô converting from the penalty spot following a lengthy wait over a VAR decision.

The Sky Blues continued to create chances after the break but again waited until the final minutes before securing the three points, Mierzejewski hitting home a penalty after Ninkovic had been brought down.

Perth had a chance to equalise late in the game but Redmayne produced a magnificent save from Taggart.

The Sky Blues will stay at the A-League summit dependent on weekend games for Melbourne City and Newcastle Jets.

What They Said

Graham Arnold: “I thought we were very dominant, it could have been seven or eight goals tonight.

“It’s a fantastic start, we played very well but it will get greater and greater as the season goes on.

“I know that we will get much better, there’s so much more to give in the team and the players, they’ll give more.

“One night someone will cop it.”

Goals

45’ PENALTY BOBÔ – A Wilkshire effort hits Mills hand and the referee signals to the spot after a lengthy VAR review. The Brazilian makes no mistake, sending the keeper wrong way.

94’ PENALTY MIERZEKEWSKI – Simon bursts away and finds Ninkovic between two defenders. He’s brought down resulting in a third penalty of the night. Substitute Mierzekewski hits it down the middle to round off the game in style.

Key Moments

8’ GREAT STRIKE BUIJS – The Dutchman goes on a mazy run to find Zullo on the wing. Brosque lays it off for Buijs who remained forward and the defender takes a stinging shot towards goal that Reddy just parries away.

18’ FINGERTIP SAVE REDMAYNE – Perth get a free kick just outside the box and Castro steps up to take. The Perth playmaker’s curling effort is destined for the top left corner if not for Redmayne who does brilliantly to tip it away.

21’ CHANCE BOBÔ – Ninkovic plays a wonderful chip in behind the Perth defence to an on running Bobô but the Sky Blues’ striker is unable to find the net.

25’ PENALTY CHANCE BOBÔ – Mills pushes Carney in the back and the official points to the spot. Bobô takes the penalty, sending Reddy the wrong way but hitting the crossbar in the process.

28’ SO CLOSE WILKSHIRE – Brilliant interplay between Brosque and Ninkovic as the latter finds Wilkshire in space inside the box. Wilkshire’s shot is just tipped wide by Reddy.

29’ EVEN CLOSER WILKSHIRE – A great cross from Zullo finds Wilkshire unmarked on the other side of the box but again is just denied by Reddy.

34’ JUST OVER NINKOVIC – Ninkovic makes some space out of nowhere for a shot which is just deflected for a corner.

61’ CHANCE BOBÔ – Great interplay once again from Sydney FC, finding Carney who spots the run of Bobô in behind the Perth lines. An on-rushing Reddy just does enough to stop the Sky Blue striker from adding to his tally.

68’ JUST WIDE O’NEILL – Brillante lays the ball off for his centre-mid counterpart O’Neill who hits a low driving effort, only just going wide of the right hand post.

76’ CHANCE BROSQUE – Brosque is played through one on one with Reddy until Neville makes a late recovery to just tackle the Sky Blues’ captain.

78’ SNAP SHOT BOBÔ – Ninkovic’s effort is blocked and rebounds off a Perth defender before finding the feet of Bobô. The forward swivels and hits a shot to the keeper’s right but Reddy again denies.

86’ ALL CLASS MIERZEKEWSKI – Simon robs a Perth defender of the ball before finding Ninkovic in the box who plays an incredible heeled back pass to Adrian. The Polish international’s effort is just tipped over by Reddy.

92’ AMAZING SAVE REDMAYNE – Perth play a cross into the box which is met by the foot of Taggart but it’s brilliantly saved by Redmayne who dives low to his right.
