Sydney FC and Hyundai’s ‘Goal for Grassroots’ teamed up again this year to offer financial assistance to junior clubs throughout the Hyundai A-League season.

Hyundai-s ‘Goals for Grassroots- support program is designed to help promote the game of football throughout the local community and through their three nominated matches the Sky Blues managed to raise a total of $7000.
During each round a grassroots club is selected for a pre-determined ‘Goals for Grassroots- match. On top of an array of match day benefits, including match tickets and an on field presentation, the selected club is guaranteed a $1000 grant. For every goal scored during the selected match an additional $1000 is awarded up to a maximum of $10,000.
The first dedicated ‘Goals for Grassroots- match of the season for the Sky Blues was the round seven clash against the Wellington Phoenix which saw Hurlstone Park Wanderers receive $3000 dollars thanks to a 2-1 Sydney FC victory.
$1000 was raised for Balmain District FC in the narrow defeat to the Central Coast Mariners in round 15 before $3000 was raised for Football United, one of Sydney FC-s four charity partners, in the 2-1 win over the Perth Glory in round 19.
Sydney FC Community Football Officer Paul Reid, Sydney FC-s representative for ‘Goals for Grassroots-, praised the scheme and said it was a great way for the Hyundai A-League and Grassroots levels to get involved with each other.
“The Goals for Grassroots program is a great initiative by Hyundai and Sydney FC, not only by providing financial assistance to the selected clubs, but also to engage the local footballing community.
“It also gives the clubs and junior footballers a memorable experience, with the opportunity to be part of a Sydney FC match day.”
To be eligible to enter, grassroots clubs must fill out an application form and say why they believe they should be selected; they can even support their applications with photos or a short video.
