Sydney FC defender Jordy Buijs says the Sky Blues are up for the fight in Friday’s Australia Day #BigBlue at AAMI Park (kick off 7:50pm AEDT).
The Sky Blues stopper said the squad are confident heading in to the clash, as he set his sights on reaching the first goal for the season of achieving 50 points.
“Like every time against Melbourne, it’s going to be a tough fight,” Buijs said.
“We have a lot of fighters in the team. We’re going to prepare ourselves well this week.
“We have a lot of confidence because we don’t take our foot off the pedals, we keep going on, keep fighting and now it’s time to win.
“I think we always have confidence, in the training, on the pitch,” he continued.
“We have a great squad, a great team that can do everything and we have a lot of confidence in the team. It doesn’t matter who we play against, it comes from ourselves.
“We have 10 games to go and we want to get 50 points.
“The last two games we showed some good football, we want to keep this, move on with this and get three points.”
Australia Day brings up the one year mark for Buijs, who made his Sky Blue debut in the same clash in 2017, as the Dutch defender reflected fondly on his first match and his defensive partnership with Alex Wilkinson.
“It was a nice game to start my time with Sydney FC,” Buijs said.
“It was a good crowd, a good stadium and it was a good win to start and we will win this game [on Friday] as well.
“It’s always good to play against teams who have individual nice players but it’s all about us. We need to think about ourselves and our qualities and then we have a very good chance to win.
“Wilko is a very good and experienced player and it’s very nice to play next to him,” he continued.
“He makes a lot of headers, he’s strong on his feet and it’s a nice duo [defensive partnership] I think.”
