Sydney FC put in a dominant, comprehensive performance on Saturday to down Melbourne Victory in the #BigBlue at Cromer Park, in Round 6 of the Westfield W-League.

Goals to Princess Ibini and Lisa De Vanna handed the Sky Blues the three points in wet and windy conditions, and it could have been more with impressive attacking displays from Head Coach Ante Juric’s squad thwarted a number of times by former Sky Blue Casey Dumont in goal for the visitors.

The win sees the Sky Blues move up to sixth on the ladder ahead of next Saturday’s massive Westfield W-League Hyundai A-League #SydneyDerby double header at ANZ Stadium (kick off 5pm).

What They Said

Head Coach Ante Juric: “It was a solid performance, it was the first time we had the whole squad to choose from so the signs are good. We finished with two goals and didn’t concede so that’s a good thing, but we’ve got a lot to improve on, but we’re not at our max and we won which is pleasing. It’s a matter of now we’re getting the results, our base is excellent going forward so I’m very happy.”

Goals

3’ IBINI STRIKES – A quick break forward and some neat build up play releases Princess Ibini on the right flank, she takes a touch into the area and sidefoots beyond Dumont and into the back of the net.

57’ DE VANNA’S SOLO EFFORT – From a Melbourne corner the Sky Blues’ defence clears the ball to De Vanna in her own half, she carries it forward running the length of the field, takes on the lone Melbourne defender before rounding her and slotting beyond Dumont.

Key Moments

2’ SIEMSEN SCUFFS HER SHOT – Georgia Yeoman-Dale carries the ball to the byline before cutting back towards Siemsen lurking inside the area, however the Young Matilda scuffs her effort with defenders baring down on her.

3’ LOGARZO SHOT SAVED – Amy Harrison carries the ball out of defence, beating two defenders, before releasing Chloe Logarzo whose blazing effort from the edge of the box is well held by Dumont.

5’ BLEDSOE SAVE – Natasha Dowie breaks forward and cuts into the box but Bledsoe is equal to the forward’s low effort to gather the ball.

16’ LEDBROOK RATTLES THE BAR – Kylie Ledbrook lofts a free kick into the Melbourne Victory box from the right flank and it evades everyone to rattle the bar before being cleared.

31’ BLEDSOE SAVES AGAIN – Ga Eul Jeon steps up for a set piece for Melbourne and curls it goalwards, but Bledsoe is equal to the effort to palm the ball over the bar.

50’ AYRES FIRES OVER – Melina Ayres pounces on a loose ball in the box but blazes high over the bar under pressure from the Sky Blues’ back line.

55’ SIEMSEN GOAL OFFSIDE – Lisa De Vanna beats Dumont before cutting back for Remy Siemsen to slot home, however the flag is up for offside as the Young Matilda strayed beyond the last defender in the build-up.

67’ BARBIERI SLICES WIDE – A bouncing ball lands at the feet of Barbieri on the edge of the box and she volleys at goal, only to see it bounce the wrong side of the near post.

90+4’ KHAMIS HITS THE POST – Leena Khamis is played in with her back to goal and she turns and fires a powerful effort into the post and out with the last kick of the game.
