Sky Blue Women Fall To City Away

Sydney FC 1 (Sayer 21’) def. Melbourne City 3 (Spencer 13’, 48’, 60’)

Sydney FC W-League has gone down to Melbourne City 3-1 away in fiercely fought contest.

Moments That Mattered:

1. Spencer goal – 13’  – City’s American import bundles her way through to finish one on one with Bledsoe.
2. Sayer goal – 21’ – Sayer pounces on De Vanna’s saved shot to finish from close range.
3. Logarzo chance – 47’ – Polias’ cross finds Logarzo as she directs her header top corner but is just saved.
4. Spencer goal – 48’ – Caceres tees up Spencer for her second tap in of the game.
5. Spencer goal – 60’ – Spencer nets her third after finishing near post.
6. McCaskill chance – 73’ – Foord plays McCaskill through on an angle to sting Williams’s palms.
7. Blissett red card – 76’ – City go down to 10 as the youngster is sent for her last ditch challenge on McCaskill
8. Vignes chance – 88’ – a scramble in the box leads to a thunderous effort that is just tipped over.

The home side struck first as Spencer forced her way through to fortuitously be within touching distance of Bledsoe and finish from close range.

It didn’t take long for the Sky Blues to draw level as McCaskill played an inch perfect ball to De Vanna.

The resulting shot was saved but only into the path of Sayer who hammered home for her first W-League goal that would be last goalmouth action for the half.

City retook the lead shortly after the restart following a counterattack that saw Spencer grab her second of the day.

She completed her hattrick 10 minutes later after being played through and finishing near post just inside the 18-yard box.

The Sky Blues had came close a number of times to narrow or close the gap but it wasn’t to be.
