Simon Set For Gosford Return

While it’s officially listed as an away game for the Sky Blues, for Matt Simon Sydney FC’s clash against the Mariners at Central Coast Stadium will be his second home game in the span of a week.

Still residing on the Central Coast, Simon is looking forward to stepping out in Sky Blues in Gosford in front of family and friends although he said his emotions will be mixed as he lines up against a number of familiar faces.

“It’s going to be a good feeling going to Gosford and playing for Sydney FC,” Simon said.

“I’m really looking forward to it, especially the way we’ve started the season. Hopefully we can put in a good performance and get the three points.

“It’s probably going to be a little bit strange facing a few of the player there, I’ve known a lot of them for a long time.

“I’m going to enjoy my time there but it’s going to be a bit different sitting over the other side of the change room.

“I suppose you could say it’s a home game [for me],” he continued.

“I’m going to have a lot of family and friends travelling into Gosford to watch the game. It’s going to be a first for them as well going for Sydney in Gosford. I think they’re looking forward to it as well.”

With another bumper crowd predicted for Saturday, Simon said it’s great to step out in front of capacity audiences as he said his insider knowledge would count for little in comparison to Head Coach Graham Arnold meticulous preparations.

“The league is growing and each week the crowds are getting more interested,” he said.

“It was great having the 40,000 at the derby and hopefully we can back that up. We know Sydney FC fans are going to turn out in Gosford and make the effort to get there and we’re really looking forward to a big crowd.

“We’re just going to have to get the game plan off Arnie,” he continued.

“He sits down and studies each team in depth each week and as long as we stick to that game plan we should do well for ourselves.”

Sydney FC travel to take on the Central Coast Mariners at Central Coast Stadium on Saturday 31 October (kick off 5:15pm). Catch the match live on Fox Sports 4 or follow @SydneyFC on Twitter for match updates.
