Shane Smeltz will be looking to hit the ground running at Sydney FC after signing for the Sky Blues on a one year contract for the 2014/15 Hyundai A-League season.

The New Zealand international played a part in 13 matches for the Perth Glory last season, for a total of 770 minutes, with the Glory marquee scoring four goals in a season where competition for positions was rife.

Smeltz-s shot accuracy was impressive, with six out of his 11 shots being on target, and the forward also played his part away from goal with the All-White have the third highest passing accuracy of the Glory-s forward line at 75.2%, chipping in with one assist.

Smeltz has been just as prolific in front of goal at international level. Having represented New Zealand 50 times at senior level, the 32 year old has scored 23 goals for the All-Whites and became the first ever Hyundai A-League player to score at the World Cup Finals when he slotted against the then reigning World Champions Italy in South Africa.

While having not won a Championship or Premiership, Smeltz has a number of personal accolades to his name.

Johnny Warren Medal winner for the 2008/09 season, Smeltz has also claimed the Oceania Footballer of the Year award twice, the Hyundai A-League Golden Boot twice, New Zealand Football Men-s Player of the Year and the Player of the Year and Players- Player of the Year awards at the Phoenix between 2007 and 2009.
