Seven In Six: Lethal Weapon Le Fondre Is Becoming Sydney FC’s New Talisman

The numbers have always smiled favourably upon Adam Le Fondre.

Not that the Englishman has ever cared too much about goals-to-game ratios.

Perhaps that is why the Sydney FC forward already looks part of the furniture a mere three Hyundai A-League games into his Australian adventure.

Three matches in six days? Just another day at the office for the 31-year-old, who has thrived upon even greater demands consistently throughout his career in England.

The former Bolton and Reading forward is developing into a genuine talisman for Sydney FC, and already looks a leading contender for signing of the season.

That claim was laid bare in Friday night’s 3-0 dismantling of Melbourne City. Le Fondre’s dead-eyed ruthlessness brought two more goals in Sydney FC colours, and ensured the Sky Blues – who were mourning an FFA Cup Final 2018 loss 72 hours earlier – end the week grinning.

Le Fondre has now scored four goals in three Hyundai A-League appearances for Sydney and became the third Sky Blues player after Dwight Yorke and Joel Griffiths to find the back of the net in his first three Hyundai A-League appearances.

His current ratio of a goal every 67.5 minutes should come as no surprise. This is a player whose short-lived stint in the Premier League with Reading in 2012/13 still remains one of the competition’s most deadly.

Le Fondre’s clinical edge in front of goal has stolen the headlines, but it is his battle-hardened commitment to the Sydney FC cause that should have Corica’s back in New South Wales on a high.

Some Hyundai A-League marquees are wrapped in cotton wool, but Le Fondre is as robust as they come. Since making his debut in the FFA Cup 2018 against Avondale, he has not been called from the pitch once.

He’s also become a true leader for the reigning Hyundai A-League Premiers, typified by the sight of the pocket-sized front man rising up against City’s formidable centre half Bart Schenkeveld.

Through a marriage of full-bodied, seasoned experience and moments of pure class, Le Fondre is swiftly becoming the new hero in the Harbour City.

Sydney FC next travel away to face the Newcastle Jets at McDonald Jones Stadium on Saturday 10 November (kick off 7:50pm AEDT), before returning home for a massive #BigBlue double header at Jubilee Stadium! Tickets are selling quick, secure your seats now!
