Seb Ryall Not Guilty Of Diving

Sydney FC defender Sebastian Ryall has been found not guilty of diving to win a penalty by an independent Disciplinary Committee.

The Sky Blues centre half attended the hearing this evening after the Match Review Panel asked the committee to determine whether he had committed an act of simulation leading to a penalty kick being awarded in error.

The Disciplinary Committee was shown video evidence that Ryall’s foot clearly made contact with the heel of Melbourne Victory midfielder Gui Finkler causing him to trip, lose balance and fall to the ground, thus vindicating and upholding the reputation of the 25 year old former Young Socceroos skipper.

“We are satisfied that the Committee has reached the correct decision having been presented with overwhelming proof that there was contact between Sebastian and the Melbourne Victory player,” said Sydney FC Chief Executive Officer Tony Pignata, who accompanied the defender to the hearing.

“Sebastian is not a diver and I’m pleased his character is intact over this.

“We are disappointed with some of the responses to this incident, particularly from players at other clubs who should perhaps look within their own club before commenting on our club or players.”

Sydney FC has also addressed the issue of player conduct following an incident which occurred after the penalty was awarded.

“While we have fully supported Sebastian over the allegation he committed an act of simulation and have been vindicated in that support, we were disappointed with his response to the award of the penalty,” continued Pignata.

“Seb has been reminded of his on-field responsibilities and that respect for our team and the opposition is a big part of our values here at Sydney FC.”

Ryall will be available for Sydney FC’s match with the Central Coast Mariners at Allianz Stadium on Saturday evening (5pm kick off) as the Sky Blues welcome back defenders Nikola Petkovic and Jacques Faty from suspension.
