Sydney FC defender Seb Ryall has praised the signing of Socceroo Sasa Ognenovski and says he-s looking forward to the added competition for positions in the squad.

Ognenovski joined Sydney FC on Tuesday and could potentially make his debut against his former club Adelaide United this weekend, at Allianz Stadium (kick off 7:45pm), if he-s deemed ready by Head Coach Frank Farina.

“It-s great to sign a player like that who-s pushing for a Socceroos starting spot at the World Cup,” Ryall said.

“It-s great for the team. He-s a leader, he-s got a big presence on the field and in training yesterday he was really good so it-s going to help the squad.

“There is more competition for spots now as well and I think it-s a fantastic signing to have,” he continued.

“Anything that is good for the team is good for me, so to have him come in is a bonus.”

Ryall said the squad would do whatever it takes to win, with three points against the side one point below the Sky Blues having a massive effect on the final six standings.

“The league is so tight it-s just a matter of trying to pick up as many points as we can,” Ryall said.

“To play against Adelaide at home, a team that-s one spot below us is very important so we understand it-s a big game so we-re going to do everything we can to win.

“They-ve been looking good the last 5 or 6 matches it-s going to be a tough match. They-ve improved a lot under Gombau.”

“We know what to expect and we just have to be on top of our game, that-s the main thing.”

The Sky Blues are confident heading into this game according to Ryall, with the defender already having one eye on the finals series.

“We-ve had a really good week this week in training,” said Ryall.

“We just really need to turn up and have a good performance and that-s all we can do and that-s all we-ll try to do.

“Obviously coming to the finals you want to be there and the higher we can push up the ladder it-s going to be a massive help for the semi-finals,” he continued.

“It-s coming in to the business end of the season and we-ve strengthened our squad and we all feel as though we are fit, so it-s just a matter of winning the games and getting the points.”
