Round 6 preview: Sydney FC v Newcastle Jets

Sydney FC

Sydney FC are aiming to maintain their perfect record as they bid for a first Premiership title in a decade but the Westfield W-League leaders come up against a Newcastle Jets side in top form on Sunday.

Lauren Allan scored a double as the Hunter outfit delivered an outstanding display in last week’s 4-1 win against Western Sydney Wanderers to boost confidence ahead of the Round 6 clash at Cromer Park.

Coach Ash Wilson’s side may have just recorded their first victory of the 2020/21 campaign but they will require an even bigger performance to halt the flawless Sky Blues, who beat Newcastle 2-1 in Round 3.

Ante Juric’s team have been building steam after winning three straight games and they come off a Round 5 bye, having not seen the field since their 2-0 win against their Harbour City rivals two weeks ago.

The Sky Blues have scored seven goals in their opening three games, conceding one in that time, and host the Jets at a venue where they’ve enjoyed plenty of recent success, including a 3-0 drubbing of the Wanderers in Season 2019/20.
