Sydney FC Westfield W-League forward Caitlin Foord enjoys the challenge of scoring against her best friend - Brisbane Roar goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold.
Foord sparked her friendship with Arnold back in 2014 playing for Perth Glory and has scored on six occasions in the last three games against her.
The 25-year-old netted a brace against the Roar in last year’s semi-final but Foord ensures she gets that extra drive in these types of games.
“Mackenzie is my best friend and we usually have a bit of banter whenever we play,” she said.
“It does give me that little bit extra to want to score against her, although that’s not really a factor at the end of the day, just a nice personal thing for me.”
Although Foord is a renowned goal-scorer for the Sky Blues and the Matildas, she focuses on winning before anything else.
“I’m always looking for the win but at the end of the day if I score a goal that’s a bonus.
“To me it doesn’t matter who scores the goals as long as we win,” Foord said.
The Roar are sitting in fourth on the Westfield W-League ladder – just two points behind the Sky Blues. They are also coming off a thumping 4-0 win over the Wanderers and Foord says Brisbane are never a team that they can take lightly.
“Whenever we do play Brisbane it’s always a tough game and both of us step up.
“We’re always up to our best when we verse them and they are too so it’s always a close game,” she said.
“Coming off a win like that they’re going to be pretty confident.”
Sydney FC return home to take on Brisbane Roar at Leichhardt Oval on Thursday 16th January (kick-off 7:30pm).
